Catching Sara Price at the Local Track: A Q&A

Words and Images: Jason Stilgebouer

Featuring: Sara Price

Sara Price has made a name for herself in off-road racing throughout the years, racing anything from two wheels to four claiming multiple championships including a SCORE International Baja Spec Trophy Truck championship. Recently, she has been announced as the first driver for the upcoming electric environmentally conscious series, Extreme E for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2021. We were able to catch up with her and ask her a few questions at her local motocross track and find out what it is like to back on two wheels, but this time just for fun.

We know you have been racing since you were racing since you 8 years old and first factory female supported by Monster Energy Kawasaki in 2010 and since then went on to compete in multiple championships and medal at X-Games. When was the last time you raced motorcycles and why did you stop?

Oh, man, the last time I raced dirt bikes seriously was probably in 2012. The final race I did was at the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix, a legendary race close to my house, and I was able to race with one of the girls that I brought under my wings, Lauren Woods and who is like a sister now to me. I have trained with her since she was on minis, which is pretty cool! Her goal has always been to beat me, and she still hasn’t, but I barely beat her that race!

What brings you out to the local track today, and what is it like just riding for fun compared to racing?

Riding just for fun compared to racing is so different, you go out there with no pressure, no stress, and you're just looking to have a good time. Not throwing down the fastest lap time even though I still try to go hard, but now I get arm pump fast, haha. I recently bought a brand new bike to get back in it. I just casually ride here and there but mostly have a good time with friends as well as ride more with my Boyfriend. Today Vicki Golden had messaged me saying "the crew" was going to the track. I just thought I would come to meet some friends and try to kick that arm pump with some seat time! It was a blast!

You aren't the only one out here today, Vicki Golden was out there putting down some laps. What is it like riding with a friend you used to compete with years ago in racing?

It's really awesome to see where we started and where we are now and the fact that we can go out there and have a blast basically as retired track riders. She still hauls a#*! It's crazy to think how far back we go; I've known her since I pretty much ever started racing, it's been cool to see her shift her focus to the freestyle and how much she is killing it doing so!

Now you are racing anything and anything with four wheels, with your most recent SCORE Baja Championship in the RPM Spec Trophy Truck, do you think you could ever try and race desert on a bike?

Most likely not, there is too much unknown it is too dangerous for me.

What are you up to now in the world of racing?

Well, some Big News Just got released that I’ll be racing for the legendary Chip Ganassi Racing Team, in a brand new series called Extreme E! I’m very excited about this and can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
